Squarespace has one huge flaw…

Have you tried upgrading your Squarespace from 5 to 6 or 7?

Apparently, Squarespace 6 voids all hope for a clean integration between 5 and 6. Because according to Squarespace’s website “You can import blogs, pages, comments, and galleries directly from your Squarespace 5 site into your Squarespace 7 site. [But] (Certain content must be imported manually…)” Certain content must be imported manually?

“I was under the impression I wouldn’t have to think?”

When I did a quick search I found an article outlining in loose terms that Squarespace does not have a 1 for 1 conversion between the old and the new. Putting any noobs at a disadvantage.  

And with Noobs in mind. I was under the impression that Squarespace, purveyor of design and beauty was so user-friendly. Variously, because 1. You don’t need to purchase and manage a domain separately from your website, Squarespace has you covered. Plus 2. Squarespace updates automatically your theme and security features.

But if upgrading my site from 5 to 6 or 7 requires a professional to “manually import” parts of my website, I’m wondering what the point was. And furthermore, the nerd blogger said convincingly, is a Squarespace website’s data vulnerable during a lapse during an upgrade? Is the content insecure? Are people putting their businesses in jeopardy? Their entire lives at risk?

Surely there are answers to these questions, 

but I don’t have them. I do know that using Squarespace puts a lot of integrations in one place. After all, once the site is up to date with version 7, updates are automatic.
