We certainly did. That’s why we started Techretaries. But deciding what kind of website to build in support of your new business can be a daunting task. Unless you keep reading, in which case you’ll be just fine.

In the beginning, we only needed a website to advertise that we had a business at all. The first one was basic HTML and covered a variety of services that we had learned from real jobs we’d had. It was great for it’s pointed simplicity. Which is another way of saying it was kind of dull. But even with our professional-grade, real-world proficiency, we needed our website didn’t look as good as we felt about the business. It didn’t pop the way so many websites do. So we decided to upgrade. And that’s how we landed on the platform we’re using to write this blog, WordPress.

As we’ve now learned over the years: WordPress Websites Are Great For New Businesses. They are customizable to the max, making it capable of hosting videos, blogs, eCommerce shops (via WooCommerce), everything you might need to advertise and run your business. But more than being customizable, WordPress is easy to use. In much the same way that social media and computers have evolved to be extremely user-friendly, so has web design. So no more excuses, Grandma.

The theme we use for our website, Techretaries.com, is called Divi. Divi provides a “theme builder” to manipulate “modules” where you place your content using the “visual builder.” It’s really easy to understand and everything about Elegant Themes is affordable. So affordable that we don’t charge customers for any Elegant Themes if we use one to build your website.

The benefit of using a theme from an established company instead of building everything from scratch is speed and community. Elegant Themes has a healthy Support Forum full of real-time users and support staff where questions can be answered. Sometimes they’re answered by support staff and sometimes by regular people. This means that every question usually has an answer. Usually. There are exceptions to every rule.

Truth be told, sometimes a developer is necessary to adjust really specific details throughout any website. Regardless of the language, it was written in or company that designed the theme, having a real person who is capable of CSS styling or writing a new code snippet to solve an unforeseen problem is necessary. After all, that’s why Techretaries is still around.
